Car washes and Popes

Cold and rainy was the greeting this morning.  My consiliare called me to urge me to cancel the car wash.  A good leader always listens to council so thus I am here at my computer and not knee deep in cold water and sunscreen.

So let’s take a big leap from the car wash to the Catholic church (the story in the link below was the headline for my news feed).  Let me start by saying that I have great love for my Catholic brothers and sister.  For those who are faithful and are seeking God – I say Amen!  However, I have always been bothered with the abuse scandal and the cover up that followed.  I understand the potential for sin within humanity.  Nothing is really shocking any more is it?  What I don’t grasp is the Catholic church’s reaction to it.  Check this story:

This isn’t a bash on the Catholic church, but rather a prophetic word for us to be aware of the effect of our sin.  Galatians 6:7-9 says ‘Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.’

Because of the abuse scandal there are a great many people who are suspect of the Catholic church.  God doesn’t even have to bring judgment (I will leave that in His hands) because the world is bringing judgment against the church.  As we look at our own lives we have to ask – what seeds are we sewing?  Are we going to reap destruction or rejoice with God in His harvest?  God’s desire is for goodness not destruction.  As we pray for the Holy Spirit to come, let us push on toward the goodness of God through His strengthening.
